Let’s Play! is The Alliance for Early Childhood’s Ongoing Community Program, inviting families to engage and interact with their children in child-directed, creative, free play. We are grateful to share our vision in partnership with Little Adventurers/NSSED Co-operative Preschool. Check out their Let’s Play! Ongoing Community Program Event that they are hosting below.
Inspired by Christy Hale's book, "Dreaming Up: a celebration of building," children will be invited to construct structures using a variety of natural and synthetic materials. Children and families can dig into their inner architects and engineers to create structures inspired by architecturally significant and/or unique buildings from around the world. Provocations may include taking different sized cups to create towering towers like those of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or fastening LEGOs to create a building that mimics Habitat 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. One may find inspiration from the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain and drip sand to create towers or use paper towel tubes and cardboard to construct a building much like the Paper Tube School in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Perhaps ideas will blossom from a closer to home inspiration, like Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater in Bear Run, Pennsylvania. Possibilities are infinite. “If they can dream it, they can build it.” —Madhu Thangavelu.
